Coach Travis
I have been riding mountain bikes since I was a teenager and moved to road biking about 20 years ago, which of course as any good addiction naturally progressed to a love of triathlon that started in my late twenties. Passions include hypothermia-inducing 50-mile rides in the snow-covered mountains of Colorado, blister-producing century rides in the desert, multiday sessions across Iowa, battling sultry heat for Ironman(s) with numerous duathlons, triathlons, half and full marathons in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, New Mexico, Missouri, and Tennessee. Since I am glutton for punishment or perhaps it is lack of oxygen, I have always returned for seconds over the years! Currently focused on proper body mechanics, nutrition and hydration as well as finding a balance between all three sports. I have also found a love for gravel cycling in the past couple of years and when I am not training for a triathlon you can find me on some gravel road in the middle of no where.
I have been coaching in Kansas City since 2018 and was an engineer for most of my life, but cycling and triathlon are my passion. I am always learning and growing as a coach and athlete. I like to incorporate evidence-based data and technological adjuncts to provide a full picture into coaching as well as personal performance. I also provide educational talks to my athletes and peers as a solid foundation comes from understanding why we do what we do.
-Bike fitting using static measurement and 3D motion capture.
-Bike and run analysis using LEOMO motion performance indicators to provide real-time insights into your cycling and running form.
-Coaching programs in Training Peaks for cycling, gravel, and triathlon.
-Coaching from beginner doing their first event to experienced athlete ready to take it to the next level.
Coach Danny
I started in endurance sports through cycling and was drawn early to long rides, steady pressure, and the quiet work required to get better. That curiosity eventually pulled me into triathlon, where I completed my first half Ironman in the summer of 2023 after learning how to swim just months earlier in February. Later that fall, I finished a full Ironman in 2023—an experience that reinforced my belief in patience, durability, and showing up consistently when the work gets uncomfortable. Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, I train locally whenever possible but am always looking for time in the mountains, where long climbs, changing conditions, and self-reliance reward preparation and honest effort. In recent years, gravel riding has become a natural extension of that mindset, blending endurance, problem-solving, and discipline far from crowds and convenience.
I have been coaching for many years and spent over 15 years coaching competitive youth baseball, which shaped how I approach athlete development. I strongly believe in building foundational capabilities, developing skills over the long term, and emphasizing the secondary skills—fueling, pacing, movement quality, and recovery—that often determine outcomes more than raw fitness alone. My coaching style is data-driven without being overcomplicated, using metrics to inform decisions while listening closely to athlete feedback. I focus on helping athletes understand why the work matters, build durable fitness, and execute with confidence—whether they are preparing for long days on gravel, their first endurance event, or their most demanding race yet.

“I did it! I am an Ironman or maybe a really good duathlete! Ironman Chattanooga is done (all be it without the swim). I could not have done it without Travis Brooks and the Suffer Sooner squad.”
Matt
Overall your coaching is impeccable. I felt that you were very detailed in my training plans And really took time to learn me as a person and athlete. You were consistent in your direction with me and my learned Alot about fueling, tire changing, strategy and race perspective. I think you are a wonderful coach and would recommend you always 10/10 100%. I grew so much this season because of you and I will take away with me so much knowledge. PS the zone 2 was my friend on race day.

I would recommend Travis as a coach for anyone training for a 70.3 or Ironman. He was very responsive at adjusting the plan based on life getting in the way or when workouts made more sense based on your life. Got me through my first Ironman and his best attribute was his empathy when a workout didn’t go as planned or your body wasn’t there on that day.
